Strictly speaking, media interpreter or TV interpreter is not an independent category of interpreter. It simply covers interpreters who have specialised themselves in order to adapt to the particular requirements of television as a medium. What is particular about such situations is that the interpreter needs to be especially skilled in order to capture the particular mood of an interviewee and must be able to render this in a credible manner. Here it is essential to interpret almost without any time delay, ending statements very close to the original speech as any delayed reactions would inhibit the natural conversational flow and of course this would be an undesirable effect on television.
